Local Place Planning is a process initiated by the Scottish Government to enable communities to create proposals for the development and use of land and buildings in the area. The Local Place Plan can also take the opportunity to comment on the communities future well-being and propose ideas for how council services can be delivered in the area as well as how local organisations can work together to deliver projects.
Key areas that local communities can have a say on are:
- Proposals for land development
- Climate change adaption – flood mitigation, renewable energy
- New Housing sites
- Conservation of town centres and our built environment
- Conservation of heritage sites
- Active travel proposals
- Local business and local economy opportunities
- Community food initiatives
- Restoration and conservation of natural spaces
- Creation of community spaces and community owned spaces
The visions of the community are gathered in a Local Place Plan document. Once registered the Local Place Plan has to be taken into account in the preparation of the areas next Local Development Plan. The next area development plan phase covers planning from 2028-2038.

The research for the plan has been done – this presentation highlights some of the key themes that have emerged.
The next step is the publication of a draft plan for comment by the community and the council before a final plan is submitted to the council at by the end of the year.
