Update from meeting Monday 29th April 2025

We were pleased to be joined by Councillor William Sinclair and 2 members of the public.

Community transport: there are a number of points which we will take to the Transport Forum including, issues with the Dunoon Ferry timetable, the size, lack of bookings and frequency of the Portavadie to Tarbert ferry. Issues with bus services, particularly absence in school holidays. If you have any issues with transport let us know.

Community resilience: this was highlighted as a major issue during the recent storm and lots of views coming in through the local place plan process. We will discuss this further and look at what other community councils are doing. Linked to this is concern about the landline digital switch we are interested to hear views from our community so that we can feed them into the consultation process which BT have established.

Rally update: KCC submitted a detailed response with all the concerns about the proposed routes which we had heard from our community, including the impact on local businesses, environmental impact and the lack of alternative access.. We asked for urgent discussions with Argyll and Bute Council about the stages but have not had a response. Meantime the rally organisers seem to be assuming they are going ahead, although they do not yet have the required legal permissions. Jenni Minto MSP has also raised our concerns. Councillor Sinclair reassured the meeting that our concerns were being taken seriously.

Local place plan: There have been a number of events and we are receiving lots of views. Issues coming up include community resilience, water quality and supply issues, including tanker imports and sewage into sea, housing supply issues, community owned spaces, issues for young people, roads and transport and land management. Please join in events, complete the survey by 12th May 2025, available online and in local shops. The plan is due to be submitted to Argyll and Bute Council in late 2025 after approval by the KCC.

Library services: the CC discussed changes to library services over recent years and we are keen to look at innovative ways to extend access and develop new services. Please let us have any thoughts.

Community engagement: this is a really important area to enable the KCC to understand and deliver on community priorities. We want to publicise the reestablishment of the CC.
coordinate with other local groups engaging with communities.

Our AGM on Tuesday 24th June at Kames Hall will run through the afternoon and evening to enable maximum participation we will be designing this event at our May meeting, let us have your thoughts.

Road Improvements: Councillor Sinclair updated that Royal Brae and Kames middle road are now in council’s resurfacing schedule. Councillor Blair has offered KCC a meeting with roads officers in late May/early June and we are keen to hear from the community about roads issues we should raise.

High Brenfield windfarm consultation KCC is registered as interested party to engage when the formal process starts.
